Upon learning that his beloved has married another man, the young man deserts from the army. By chance, he meets a young woman who works as a secretary for a "new Ukrainian." Her boss abuses his power to take advantage of her feminine charms. With the help of the deserter, the secretary blackmails her boss, demanding money from him. The easy success of the scam convinces them that they can get away with fraud. However, the police, hired killers, and the military registration office are hunting for the guy.
