Little Katrinchen the hen is looking for a nesting place. She escapes an encounter with a fox unscathed by convincing him she's still too thin. A little dog helps her find a safe hiding place. Once the chicks have hatched, the fox reappears. This time, the little hens, with long red rushes in their beaks, chase him away, pretending to be fox-eaters.
