André-Paul Antoine, born on August 17, 1892, in Paris, was a French screenwriter, dialogue writer, and director whose career spanned from the 1920s to the 1970s. The son of renowned director André Antoine, a founding figure of modern theater in France, he followed in his father's footsteps at an early age, actively contributing to the development of talking pictures. He made his film debut in the late 1920s and directed Mon cœur incognito (1931) and La Folle aventure (1931), two films produced in the context of multilingual versions, which were common in the early days of sound cinema. Quickly recognized for his writing talent, he became one of the most sought-after screenwriters and dialogue writers in French cinema. He collaborated with several major directors. His filmography includes more than 50 screenplays, covering dramas, historical films, comedies, and literary adaptations. He also participated in the creation of series and television films in the 1960s and 1970s, including Schulmeister, espion de l’empereur (1971). André-Paul Antoine died in Paris on October 10, 1982, at the age of 89, leaving behind a dense body of work representative of several decades of French cinema.
