Sharaliev graduated from the St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University and the VGIK, Moscow. He has worked at Boyana Film Studio, Bulgaria and had been a member of the Parliament from 1972 to 1980. He was a Chair of the Board of the directors of Boyana Film Studio. He was the winner of a numerous Grand Prix at national and international film festivals.
