Suat Yalaz was a prominent Turkish comic book artist, screenwriter, and film director, best known as the creator of the character Karaoğlan. Born in Çiçekdağı, Kırşehir, Turkey, he began his career as a caricaturist and comic artist, gaining attention with the debut of 'Karaoğlan' on January 3, 1962. The success of this historical swordsman character led Yalaz to venture into filmmaking, where he directed and produced several films based on his creation, including Karaoğlan: Altay'dan Gelen Yiğit (1965) and Karaoğlan: Bizanslı Zorba (1967). In 1970, Yalaz moved to France, where he created French-language adaptations of Karaoğlan, such as Changor (1971). His work significantly influenced Turkish popular culture, and he remained active in the arts until his passing in Istanbul on March 2, 2020.
